Welcome! The Library Media Center is
staffed full-time by
Mrs.Teresa Nixon, library media aide.

Our
mission is to provide resources and
support to staff and students so that
they may obtain the books and
information they want and need for
school assignments and personal
enrichment. We achieve this by providing
print and electronic resources,
instruction, equipment, technological
support, and training in a well
organized and attractive environment.
The
Library Media Center is open daily
during school hours from 8:00 - 3:15.

Awards

The
Caldecott
Medal
honors
the
illustrators
of the
year's
most
distinguished
American
picture
books
for
children.
It has
been
presented
every
year
since
1938 by
the
Association
for
Library
Service
to
Children
(ALSC),
a
division
of the
American
Library
Association.
The
medal is
named
after
Randolph
Caldecott,
a 19th
Century
English
illustrator
known
for the
action,
vitality
and
humor of
his
picture
books. |

The John
Newbery
Medal,
awarded
by the
Association
for
Library
Service
to
Children
(ALSC)
every
year
since
1922,
honors
the
authors
of the
year's
most
outstanding
children's
book.
The
Newbery
Medal is
named
after
John
Newbery,
a noted
18th
Century
London
publisher
and
bookseller
who
first
recognized
that
children
have
reading
interests
distinct
from
adults. |

Designed
to
commemorate
the life
and work
of the
late Dr.
Martin
Luther
King,
Jr., and
to honor
Mrs.
Coretta
Scott
King for

brotherhood.
Presented
annually
to an
African
American
author
and an
African
American
illustrator
for an
outstandingly
inspirational
and
educational
contribution
published
during
the
previous
year.
The
separate
award
for
illustrator
was
added in
1979. |
The
Texas
Bluebonnet
Award (TBA)
reading
program
was
established
in 1979
to
encourage
Texas
children
to read
more
books,
explore
a
variety
of
current
books,
develop
powers
of
discrimination,
and
identify
their
favorite
books.
The
award
process
provides
librarians,
teachers,
parents,
and
writers
with
insight
into
young
students;
reading
preferences.
It
further
affords
an
opportunity
to honor
and
encourage
imaginative
authors
who
create
books
with
high
appeal
to
children.
The
program
is a
project
of the
Texas
Library
Association
and is
co-sponsored
by the
Children's
Round
Table
and the
Texas
Association
of
School
Libraries. |

The 2 X
2
Reading
List is
for the
youngest
readers.
It is a
new
reading
list
created
by the
Children’s
Round
Table, a
unit of
the
Texas
Library
Association.
The
annual
list
consists
of 20
recommended
books
for
children,
age two
to grade
two. |

The
Texas
Lone
Star
reading
list is
a
reading
incentive
program
designed
for
young
adults
of
Texas,
(grades
6-8),
who are
encouraged
to read
books
from a
selected
reading
list
prepared
by the
Texas
Lone
Star
Reading
List
Committee
as a
part the
Texas
Library
Association
Executive
Board
and the
Young
Adult
Round
Table of
the
Texas
Library

The
Tayshas
High
School
Reading
List
project
was
created
to
motivate
young
adults
(grades
9-12),
to read
more and
to enjoy
opportunities
to
become a
community
of
readers
in
Texas.
